“For my upcoming performances in the United States, I am most grateful to violinist James Ehnes for stepping in at short notice to replace Christian Tetzlaff in our all-Brahms programs. Thankfully, it is for a very happy reason: Christian and his wife are expecting a child now at any time, and he will be staying close to home!  I first heard James Ehnes play nearly two decades ago, and we played the Ravel Sonata together at the Risor Festival in the late 90s.  Two years ago, I heard him in my home town of Bergen where he played the Brahms Concerto. I was very moved by that performance, and am greatly looking forward to him joining Tabea Zimmermann, Clemens Hagen and me for that composer’s three extraordinarily beautiful Piano Quartets.”
