The Berliner Morgenpost reviews Leif Ove’s performance of Beethoven 3 with the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester under Gianandrea Noseda

“Recently, Leif Ove Andsnes has released his recording of Beethoven’s piano concertos after long years of study – and under his own musical direction. Now, Andsnes is using his insights on stage in public. In his concert with the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester Berlin conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, he played the Concerto in C minor, the 3rd in the major cycle, in a clearly compelling way. Andsnes has already appeared as a year-long “Pianist in residence” at the Philharmonic.

“In the meantime, he is 42 and at the peak of his skills. He renounces all pianistic caressing. He shows himself to be rather unromantically clear in character. He illuminates what he plays, not with a sentimental romantic style, which people always like, but rather as if this were a world premiere. He plays Beethoven with respect and accuracy, but without artistic craving. Andsnes approaches him with unusual severity and urgency. It is ear opening to listen to him. The audience followed with alertness and admiration.”
