VENUE NOTE:
In 2012, Leif Ove Andsnes began his Beethoven Journey. He recorded all the piano concertos with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and received CD after CD of deserved praise. In 2015 he completed that journey. Now, after some Beethoven rest, the sensitive Norwegian pianist picks up the thread again. And how? With Beethoven’s famous last three sonatas, he immediately dives into the composer’s deepest inner workings and sheds new light on Beethoven’s last resounding thoughts on the form and direction of the piano sonata in his own refined way.
‘Music cannot solve global problems, but I hope that my program can at least evoke some of the emotions that we so desperately need right now: compassion, empathy, generosity, understanding and appreciation for diversity’. Leif Ove Andsnes made this statement in the spring of 2025 to make it clear why he was still performing in the United States. It characterizes this man of principles who is just as conscientious with the music he plays. The fact that Beethoven rarely sounded is all the more reason to hear Andsnes now.
