The Hamburger Abendblatt previews Leif Ove Andsnes and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra’s Residency in Hamburg which opens on 24 September at the Laeiszhalle:

“The search for new ways, the constant struggle for one’s own will and the struggle for a decent life: All these core issues of human existence are incorporated in the composition of the piano concertos. And Leif Ove Andsnes is aware of this fact.  This is also why the Norwegian Star is one of the greatest pianists of today –  because he opens up the conceptual content of the work with his interpretations. Over the three year period of his “Beethoven Journey”,  he has been performing concerts together with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in the music capitals of Europe. And when they make a stop off in Hamburg, the musicians will surprise and possibly even irritate listeners with music that is seemingly familiar. Because that belongs to the very essence of this music.”
