As the Proms was unable to go ahead this summer as originally planned, the BBC has chosen highlights from previous seasons for re-broadcast on radio and TV. Amongst those chosen is Leif Ove Andsnes and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra’s now famous 2015 Prom dedicated to the Beethoven PIano Concertos, which will be re-broadcast on Monday 20 July at 19.30 (British time). Leif Ove Andsnes will be joining the presenter Andrew McGregor, live on air on BBC Radio 3 in the interval to reminisce about performing Beethoven at the Royal Albert Hall.
The 2015 performance was the closing concert of a three night residency at the Proms featuring Beethoven Piano Concertos Nos. 2 and 5, which was heralded by the UK critics at the time as “startlingly fresh” (The Guardian), “spellbinding” (The Telegraph) and with “a sense of deep wonder” (The Times).
