Portugal’s Público newspaper reviews Leif Ove Andsnes’ performance of Beethoven Piano Concerto no. 4 in Lisbon: “With appreciable clarity of articulation, agility and fluent sense of contrast, the Norwegian pianist put his sensitivity to the service of the genius of Beethoven rather than embark on a more extravagant musical discourse as sometimes happens with some interpreters. In the end, he had to return several times to the stage to receive the applause and eventually play, as the encore, Beethoven’s Allegretto from Sonata op. 54, a fascinating example of perpetuum mobile, which Andsnes returned to us with a faultless sense of rhythm.”
