“Rarely have we seen examples of such widespread enthusiasm” wrote Il Periodico of last night’s concert in Barcelona. “The public … largely cheered the young musicians of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and rhythmically clapped for the return to stage of the veteran conductor Herbert Blomstedt (85 years) … The pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, debuting in this hall, was the other big winner of a vibrant evening with his performance in the first half of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 4 … Monday was one of those nights when the music becomes a celebration.”

Tonight its all eyes on Paris as Leif Ove and the young members of the GMYO perform at the Theatre des Champs-Elysées, joined of course by the ever youthful Herbert Blomstedt.
