Quicksilver inspiration and spectacular melodies flow in music written at the height of success.
Experiencing the magnificent architecture and grandeur of Bruckner’s symphonies has been compared to walking around inside a cathedral. There’s a sense of vast spaciousness and incredible scale.
The composer first heard this symphony’s serene opening theme in a dream: ‘I immediately woke up, lit a candle, and wrote it down.’ He believed it would bring him good fortune, and in fact this symphony was seventh time lucky for the lonely, misunderstood composer, who finally had a hit on his hands.
Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 22 was written in 1785, a golden year for the composer, which resulted in a spate of masterworks.
Natalie Stutzmann has a passion for Bruckner and the LSO brings rigour and energy to the composer’s reality-bending Seventh. Leif Ove Andsnes illuminates the composer’s powers of musical storytelling.
